Straight Talk or Shall I Say, Smart Talk...

Is Straight Talk really a competitor compared to Verizon Wireless, AT&T and even T-Mobile? Why should I buy Straight Talk, wouldn't a well known brand like Nextel or Sprint be better? I've heard these questions way too much in the past few months. More and more people are switching to straight talk now than they ever have before. I mean, I don't blame them. $45/month for unlimited everything. That beats the $50/month plan Verizon Wireless has for just unlimited data and text(Calling costs per minute) and the non unlimited plans on AT&T. Now don't let T-Mobile fool you, its only $49.99/month for unlimited if you join with 2 lines on your plan. An individual plan will set you back $89.99/month just like the other competitors. The main reason AT&T and Verizon Wireless have the most amount of users and T-Mobile doesn't is mainly for the sole fact that T-Mobile service isn't as abundant as AT&T or Verizon. So the service you get on T-Mobile wont be as great in some regions as in others.

So whats holding you back from switching to Straight Talk? Is it the contract that's keeping you in bind, or is it the fact that Smart Talk doesn't have a great selection of phones? Either is a valuable excuse however, I may have some great news for the listening ear. Other than the fact that Straight talk can be paid monthly, tri-monthly, or yearly; Straight Talk is an off branch of AT&T so the service you get with Straight Talk should be equally as good as if you had AT&T just paying $40 less a month, YAY! But if your problem is the phone selection, have no fear. Getting the most popular phones on a straight talk plan might be against the terms of service but will get you a phone you like on an affordable plan. According to web sources, Straight Talk uses the same type of sim card that AT&T uses, so if you buy the right Straight Talk phone (Black Berry/Android), you'll be able to take the sim card out and place it in a high end AT&T phone(Basic, Android or iPhone[iPhone 4 uses microSim cards so you'll need a sim cutter]).

Awesome right?! But there's a catch...
  1. If you do this and they catch you they will terminate your plan.
  2. Don't go over 2g of data per month or your account will be flagged and checked. So use WiFi
  3. This process will break your terms of service agreement!
So if you stay under the radar and use WiFi, Internet sources say you should be fine. I'm positive that Straight Talk will catch on sooner or later forcing major companies to lower prices of their contracts.
